ASM specializes in materials and their applications and provides information services to industries such as Aerospace, Automotive, Defense, Oil & Gas, and Electronics to mention a few. We are seeing an increased demand for innovation through improved materials performance compounded (think light weighting, extreme temperature performance, reduced corrosion, etc.) with a decreasing amount of expertise because the amount of materials experts that are retiring compared to the amount of new graduate. Utilizing technology and software to replace traditional methods of materials development, materials substitution, and product design is gaining momentum as an effective way to reduce cost and increase speed while optimizing the expertise that is available in the workforce.

A Problem/Challenge We Are Working To Solve:

ASM International is working on many initiatives, but one in particular is taking a materials centric approach to metal additive manufacturing and how ASM can help educate, provide reference information, and offer specific solutions as it relates to metal powder and the analysis and verification of a 3D printed part.
