What We Do:
We help companies protect their assets with fiber technology. Terra Sound is a service disabled, veteran owned distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) company headquartered in Columbus, Ohio. We a mission focused team of curious engineers, operations specialists and highly trained field service representatives.
So how does it work?
Our technology utilizes fiber optic cable, next-gen hardware and customized intelligent monitoring software to detect vibrations in the area in which the fiber optic sensor is installed. These vibrations can be footsteps around a perimeter, gas leaks along a pipeline, digging near an asset or vehicles driving in the area. With each installation, our software is tuned and calibrated to identify and classify targeted disturbances specific to a customer’s monitoring objectives. Once a disturbance(s) has been identified and classified, within seconds, alerts are generated to notify the customer.
We work in three verticals:
Perimeter Security – We install fiber around the perimeter of an asset that a customer wants protected. We then alert the customer of unauthorized personnel on their property and of any malicious behavior. We are compliant with NERC/FERC Critical Infrastructure Protection standards.
Pipeline Protection – Fiber is installed near a pipeline that a customer wants protected. We monitor for leaks and alert the customer of any digging that occurs near that pipeline.
Smart Cities – We install, or link into existing, fiber near a road or sidewalk to provide rich data about traffic through the area. Just a few of the data points we provide is flow of traffic, potholes and vehicle crash severity.
What’s a Trend You’re Seeing/Prediction for the Future:
Data and automation are hugely important. On the automation side, there is a lack of it in previous generation security systems, which require active monitoring from someone looking at a screen. Time can be saved and more accurate results obtained by implementing machine learning algorithms to monitor autonomously 24/7/365. As for data, the importance cannot be overstated. The better we understand the world around us, the better solutions we can build for the many challenges faced.
