COLUMBUS - OhioX, Ohio's statewide technology non-profit association, has joined the Computer Science Advocacy Coalition to advocate for the advancement and expansion of computer science access in Ohio.

As part of the coalition, OhioX and the Coalition called on support for the Governor’s efforts in the budget to increase computer science education in the state, including the creation of an Office of Computer Science Education, the enactment of “Ohio’s CS Promise,” and the expansion of teacher licensure and professional development in computer science education.

"If we're going to build the Silicon Heartland we've got to have the talented tech professionals to do it," said Chris Berry, President and CEO of OhioX. "Ohio is in a unique position to lead in computer science education, which is fundamental to building a talented workforce that can drive the state's growth and competitiveness. A strong tech workforce makes us competitive nationally and globally."

In addition to joining the coalition, Berry visited the Ohio Statehouse and offered testimony to the Ohio Senate Workforce and Higher Education Committee in support of computer science education funding.

By implementing these policies, Ohio can become a leading state in computer science education and prepare future generations for careers in a variety of industries. The coalition’s efforts will help to address the workforce shortage in Ohio and ensure that all students, regardless of their location or background, have access to computer science education.

OhioX is committed to working collaboratively with government leaders to ensure that these policies are implemented and to help secure Ohio’s economic future.
