August 2, 2021

Columbus, Ohio - Today, OhioX, a statewide tech nonprofit working to build Ohio into a leading tech hub, announced the first ever Ohio Tech Day will take place on Friday, September 24th. As part of the Ohio Tech Day announcement, OhioX also unveiled the Day's presenting sponsor, Facebook.

The goal of the day is to raise awareness for the role tech and innovation play in Ohio’s economy with Ohio Tech Day being a statewide celebration of the people, companies, and ideas that make Ohio tech possible. The Day is designed to include and inspire Ohio’s high school students: our next generation of leaders in tech and innovation.

“Ohio Tech Day will be a celebration of the people, companies, and ideas that make tech and innovation possible in the Buckeye State,” said Chris Berry, President of OhioX. “Our state has innovative companies, exciting startups, world class research institutions, and incredible centers of education training students to be future tech leaders. It’s an exciting time for tech in Ohio.”

“Ohio Tech Day is the culmination of outstanding partnerships between the public and private sectors and it will create new career opportunities for students across the state,” said Amber Tillman, community development regional manager, Facebook. “Since we broke ground on our New Albany Data Center in 2017, Ohio has continued to show strong support for innovation including STEM programming, technology career development, and small business support. We’re thrilled to be the presenting sponsor of this first of its kind event in Ohio.”

There are three major components to Ohio Tech Day’s activities on Friday, September 24th:

  1. Statewide virtual event. This statewide virtual event is for high school students. It will be free of charge and accessible to any high school student across Ohio. The program is designed to inspire high school students to consider careers in tech and show them that they don’t have to leave home to build a successful career in tech.

  2. Schools, companies, and organizations host their own event. We are encouraging Ohio Tech Day celebrations across Ohio. Any school, company, or organization is welcome to partner and host an event - virtual or in person - to celebrate and share their tech story.

  3. #iamOhiotech campaign. As part of Ohio Tech Day, there will be a campaign to tell the stories of Ohioans working in tech called #iamOhioTech. This series, and the stories, will be shared across a variety of media platforms, including: www.ohiox.org, www.ohiotechday.org, OhioX and Ohio Tech Day social channels (Twitter and LinkedIn), and in email campaigns. The goal is to show that there are many paths to a successful career in tech - and we are stronger because of this diversity.

There are a number of ways for companies, schools, and organizations to get involved in Ohio Tech Day. They can:

  1. Host an Ohio Tech Day event - virtual or in person - on Friday, September 24th.

  2. Promote their tech and innovation on social media using the #OhioTech and #OhioTechDay hashtags.

  3. Celebrate their tech and innovation professionals online using the hashtag #iamOhioTech.

Facebook’s New Albany Data Center began serving traffic in 2020 and represents more than a $1 billion investment in the state of Ohio. The energy-efficient data center will be a nearly 2.5 million square foot campus when completed and will support more than 150 jobs inside the data center as well as hundreds of construction jobs for years to come.
